Ingredients:
- Beef – 2 lb cut into 1/2 inch cubes (I used bone in shank - a tough cut of meat with some fat)
- Ginger – 1 inch piece chopped
- vinegar - 1 tbsp
- Green chillies – 3 slit
- Shallots – 3/4 th cup sliced
- Garlic – 8 cloves chopped
- Salt – to taste
- Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
- Breadfruit – 1 package frozen ( 1 lb)
- Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
- Tomatoes – 1 medium chopped
- Meat masala powder – 1 tbsp
- Chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander powder - 2 tsp
- Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala – 1 tsp
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Method:
Add the ginger, garlic,green chillies, pepper powder , 1 spring of curry leaves, salt to taste, 1/2 of the chopped shallots ,vinegar, turmeric powder and beef to a frying pan and cook covered until the beef is 3/4'th cooked.You can do this step in the pressure cooker if you want to.
In another pan add the breadfruit pieces and 1/2 cup water with salt to taste and cover and cook the breadfruit until it is 3/4'th cooked. If there is excess water just pour it off.and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds, add in the remaining shallots and curry leaves and fry iuntil the shallots are light brown.
Add the tomatoes and fry till oil separates.
Add the meat masala powder, chilly powder, coriander powder, garam masala and saute until raw smell is gone. Add the cooked beef along with gravy into the pan and also add the cooked bread fruit.
Mix well and close with a lid. Let it simmer for 10 minutes till the gravy is thick.
