- Urud Dal - 1 cup
- Raw rice - 1/2 cup
- cooked rice - 2 tbsp
- Oats - 1.5 cups
- salt - to taste
- Methi seeds - 1/4 tsp
- cooking soda - 1/4 tsp (optional)
Wash and soak the urud dal, raw rice and methi seeds in water for 6 hours .
powder the oats in a blender and keep aside .
Grind the dal+rice+methi seeds + cooked rice to a smooth paste using enough water to come up to the level of the grains in the blender .
Add the powdered oats to the batter and beat until mixed well and no lumps remain.
Allow to ferment overnight until the batter is spongy ( or you can add 1/4 tsp cooking soda to the batter and mix well and keep for 10 minutes before making idli)
Steam in idli maker for 15 minutes and remove from mould when cooled .
Serve with sambar or chutney.
