Chakani Thoran



















Ingredients:
  1. Chakani - 2 cups chopped
  2. Grated coconut - 1/4 cup
  3. shallots - 5 sliced
  4. green chillies - 5 chopped
  5. curry leaves - 2 springs
  6. turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  7. salt - to taste
  8. mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  9. Uncooked parboiled Rice - 2 tsp
  10. Oil - 2 tsp
Method:
Mix together (with your hand) the grated coconut , shallots,green chillies, turmeric powder and curry leaves and keep aside.
Mix the chakani with a the coconut mixture and salt to taste and cook until the moisture is gone and the mixture is dry .
Heat oil in a nonstick pan and add the mustard seeds.
When it splutters add the rice and fry until it turns red.
Add the chakani/coconut mixture to the pan and stir fry for 2 minutes.

  1. I had never tried it before . Heard on Amrita tv adukkala program that it can be used for Thoran and gave it a try . It came out good.

  4. hmm Jagruti that is a tough question. When you buy the whole jackfruit ,those light yellow strands that you find around the jackfruit segments are caled Chakani in malayalam . I dont know what you call that in English .You dont eat it as a fruit, it is tasteless and hard to digest in the raw form.
