Kaya Chemeen kootan / Dry shrimp with raw banana


Ingredients:
  1. Raw banana - 4.
  2. Dry shrimp - 1 cup.
  3. Grated coconut - 1/2 cup(grind this to a fine paste with some water)
  4. Green chillies - 8/10.
  5. Small onion 2-3 for the curry and 2 for thadka.
  6. Turmeric powder.
  7. Kudam puli/cocum - to taste .
  8. mustard seeds and oil.

Method:
Peel the outermost skin of banana and cut into small cubes.
crush the dry shrimp and wash and drain.
Cook the banana,shrimp,Cocum/puli ,slit green chillies and sliced onions with water,turmeric powder and salt until banana is cooked.
Then add in the ground coconut and bring to a simmer.
Do a tadka with mustard seeds and shallots and curry leaves and pour over the curry.
You can use fresh shrimp instead of dry shrimp (tiny ones taste better in this curry).
