Stag's Breath is a Liqueur that I happened to taste test recently. It was love at first sip.I even googled up a recipe that I planned to try it with, but once the bottle was opened there was none left to try out the "Badenoch Coffee" which has the Liqueur as an ingredient.
Stag's Breath Liqueur is lower in alcoholic strength (20%)and drier on the palate than its traditional counterparts. It has a distinctive 'musty' nose and over taste of waxy honeycomb which is a principle ingredient. It is not overly sweet and is carefully blended on a base of heartwarming Speyside whiskeys, Stag's Breath is truly a unique taste experience.
It is a "fine whiskey and fermented comb honey liqueur", according to the front label, while the back label states: A light liqueur of a special character produced from fine whiskey and fermented comb honey in the ancient Lordship of Badenoch in the very heart of the Scottish Highlands.
Liqueurs are generally high-alcohol, high-sugar beverages with added flavorings usually derived from herbs, fruits, or nuts. Most liqueurs range between 15% and 55% alcohol by volume.Liqueurs are typically quite sweet. they are usually not aged for long but may have resting periods during their production to allow flavors to marry. The distinction between liqueurs and spirits is not simple because many spirits like flavored vodka are available today. The most reliable guide to classification is that liqueurs contain added sugar, but spirits do not.
Here is the recipe for Badenoch Coffee though I haven't tried it out.
Method:
Put a stiff measure of Stag's breath Liqueur into a tall heatproof glass. Fill to two thirds with good percolated coffee then top up with whipped cream or pouring cream, gently poured over the back of a silver spoon.
